Petrocon Corporation Sponsors “The Passion Into Action” Scholarship for the MAUVSA

Feb. 24, 2014 - PRLog -- (Front Royal, VA) Petrocon Corporation sponsored this year’s “Passion Into Action Scholarship” at the Mid-Atlantic Union of Vietnamese Student Associations (MAUVSA) Advance Conference III. The theme, “Mapping Your Routes” focused on Vietnamese American young adults making time to pay homage to their cultural family roots, to gain a stronger self and to be better equipped in building a better future.

The scholarship is awarded to encourage attendees to find courage within themselves, to turn their dreams into reality, and to be persistent with whatever they aspire to do, without fear and regret. This year’s scholarship was awarded to Lisa Thai, from George Washington University and may be used towards any projects she wishes to achieve to help better oneself or the community.

“MAUVSA has provided me with a strong community filled with individuals that not only want to succeed themselves, but also wants to help others succeed and fulfill their goals, states Lisa Thai. With the $500 “Passion into Action” scholarship, a portion of the money will be going towards my service-learning trip in Kakuma, Kenya. The other portion will be donated to the primary schools in the camp to buy solar powered lamps for the kids. Unlike many western countries, electricity is not always available. Thus, solar powered lamps will allow students to continue learning even when there is not light. I am passionate about helping international communities with academic enhancement.”

The MAUVSA is a non-profit alliance of college-based cultural organizations from Washington D.C., Maryland and Virginia. It consists of local chapters from nine major schools throughout the region to include:
