Ever Mainard Launches Improv-Focused Stand-Up Class, Get Riffed, at Second City Hollywood

LOS ANGELES - Feb. 24, 2014 - PRLog -- Get Riffed is a unique stand-up class that focuses on the art of improvisational joke-telling and crowd work. After three successful rounds in Chicago, Get Riffed is coming to Los Angeles this March.

As seen on CNN and Jezebel, Get Riffed creator Ever Mainard is a Los Angeles comedian and Second City veteran. In addition to teaching Get Riffed, Mainard is a founder and host of The Sh*t Show, a rowdy stand-up showcase that headlined the 2013 TBS Just for Laughs Festival.

After a decade of stand-up, Mainard understands the importance of improvisation, or riffing. "Some of my best sets have happened in some of the worst rooms," Mainard says. "With the skills and confidence to riff in the moment, you can turn a loud room of hecklers into a great experience. Audiences are unpredictable; stand-up should be a mixture of planned and unplanned."

While every comic can benefit from learning to think on their feet, riffing is also a powerful tool for non-comics. Mainard’s past students have included doctors who became more comfortable talking to patients, job seekers who gained confidence in interviews, and parents who discovered a fresh way to communicate with their teenagers.

Second City Hollywood is the perfect venue for a class taught by Mainard, who graduated from the Second City Conservatory and taught Get Riffed at Second City Chicago. "I’ve been very lucky to be involved with Second City, both professionally and as a student, for seven years now," Mainard says. "They have such a well-respected name and such a rich comedy history. It feels great to bring something from the Chicago scene to Hollywood in a venue that feels like home."
