By: Remedia Trust Dedicated teams from different walks of life formed under the auspices of The Remedia Trust & Help Yourself Associates Ltd. to reach out to every pocket of misery Kolkata, New Delhi, February 24th, 2014: A series of philanthropic initiatives being undertaken by local Kolkatans hailing from myriad backgrounds under the auspices of Remedia Trust have drawn much needed attention to the city’s humongous and myriad social problems. Remedia Trust is a philanthropic organization helmed by Jillian Haslam, a local girl who achieved international acclaim on account of many glorious achievements. Her own childhood was spent in excruciating poverty in the slums and by-lanes of Kidderpore, before she found international fame as a banker, author and philanthropist. Jillian hopes that these initiatives not only help the marginalized and the poor, but show the way forward to others. These initiatives have their genesis in her own personal experiences as well the growing realization by many likeminded individuals that there were several seedy and neglected areas which were being buried under a multitude of problems. Nothing short of a people’s movement arising from the grassroots level would be able to achieve the huge tasks that need to be accomplished. One would require active participation by children, their parents, professionals, corporate organizations, the young, the old and the media every step of the way. To achieve this Remedia Trust has created five dedicated teams, each with their own unique charter to follow: Team 1 Team working for the “Youth” Team Leader-Dr. Bhaswati Ganguli Member 1- Mr. Susanto Banerjee Member 2- Mr. Pankaj Kumar Member 3- Ms Agnes D’Souza Team 2 Team working for the welfare of the city of Kolkata “Kolkata care” Team Leader-Ankita Pal Member 1- Koyel Das Member 2- Subhasis Saha Member 3 – Roshni Chakrabarty Member 4 – Subhajit Basu Member 5 – Tathagata Nayak Team 3 Team working for the ‘Aged’ Team Leader-Adeline Higgins Member 1- Kathleen O’Brien Member 2 – Nicola Joseph Team 4 Team working for the ‘Disabled (Differently Able as we like to call it” Team Leader- Mohit Mehta Member 1- Mr. Nazreen Khan Member 2- Ms Neeta Sinha Team 5 Team working with children/thalassemic children Team Leader-Anshuman Sarswat Member 1- Pratik Biyani Member 2 – Gaurav Oiha Member 3 – Ankit Sarswat Member 4 – Sharon Bell Member 5 – Puja Jaiswal Says Jillian of these initiatives, “Kolkata is a great city renowned the world over for its great sons and daughters. Unfortunately it is also known for the poverty and a plethora of other problems. I, who have lived through it all, know that a little assistance can go a long way in motivating someone who has lost all hope to hang on there and try. Not just to try, but to dream and achieve. These initiatives by Kolkatans of different ages, professions and socio economic backgrounds seek to achieve just that.” These teams are not just required to counsel those in need like street children, beggars, drug addicts the aged, the infirm, unfortunate children suffering from congenital diseases like thalassemia and others in need of help, but to also provide them with immediate material relief. The idea is to take a multi pronged approach to a multitude of problems simultaneously. Jillian Haslam who is also a well-known motivational guru, lectures in India and abroad to both raise money for these initiatives and spread awareness for the cause. The problems may be diverse and varied, but these teams will ensure that every family benefits in some way. In order to motivate the team members to do their very best for those that so desperately need help the trust has tried to incentivize achievements by the teams in their designated fields of expertise. People who genuinely care for the city, corporate and social organizations are welcome to pitch in, in whatever shape they think they can contribute. The task ahead may be daunting and immensely challenging, but these groups of people do not intend to ever stop doing their best to make a difference. If we are to get the world to look at India differently, we have got to get the people involved in bring about a change.
