Community Foundation of East Central Florida Announces Participation in ‘Give Local’ Campaign

Volusia, Flagler & Putnam Counties, FL - The Community Foundation of East Central Florida (CFECF) is pleased to announce that they will be participating in Give Local America, which is  celebrating the 100th anniversary of community foundations. The event consists of hundreds of local giving events coordinated on a national scale on one day.

Locally, the initiative is named ‘Give Local Volusia, Flagler & Putnam’.

“Last month we held three meetings across Volusia and Flagler Counties introducing Give Local America to area non-profit organizations and the excitement is growing,” said Nita Schmellick, President/CEO of CFECF. “Many of the non-profits made verbal commitments to participate,” she added. Another meeting for non-profit representatives in Putnam will be scheduled soon.

Give Local is a 24-hour online giving challenge designed to encourage people to support their favorite causes and organizations on one day.It will take place Tuesday, May 6^th, 2014. Any non-profit that would like to participate can go online to http://www.givelocalecfl.org/, complete an application and donate $50 to participate and to cover costs associated with website maintenance and marketing material.

All donations made during the Day of Giving are 100% tax deductible and will have the opportunity to be partially matched or multiplied with prize rewards each hour. During the Give Local Day real-time donation totals will be shown on the event website for each nonprofit and “prizes” will be awarded throughout the day.

Benefits to the non-profits include bringing attention to their organization, increasing the number of donors they have, and having a pool of dollars locally and nationally that have the potential to be partially matched, making gifts more valuable.
