Hk Clothing would like to congratulate Ryce Kierl on winning the 2014 HK Clothing Lionel Rose Cup (pictured below with Hk Clothing's owner Michael Prokos). Special guest on the day who along with Michael presented the cup was former WBC Featherweight Champion Johnny Famechon (career fight record of 56 wins (20 by K.0, 6 Draws and 5 Losses). Famechon become the Victorian Featherweight Champion in 1964, was the Commonwealth Champion in 1967 before becoming the WBC Featherweight Champion on the 21st of February 1969.
A great day of boxing, displaying Victoria's top amateur boxers. Congratulations to all the guys and girls who fought on the day.
The cup is in honour of the late Lionel Rose who was the first Aboriginal Boxer to win a world title when he claimed the bantamweight crown in 1968. In the same year he became the first Aboriginal to be named Australian of the Year. Retiring in 1976 with a professional boxing career record of 43 wins (12 by knockout) and 11 losses. In 2003, he was inducted into the Australian National Boxing Hall of Fame.
