Mia explains her reason for writing the book: “I had numerous health complaints as a result of being in a bad accident. Lots of operations followed, I was on prescription drugs, and my diet was poor. So when I tried doing a detox that included dry skin brushing, I suffered! The drugs and bad food choices had left me very toxic and the skin brushing started releasing those toxins all at once. I felt dreadful and gave it up. At that time, there wasn’t much information about skin brushing available and I didn’t realize why I had had such a bad reaction. Years later, after training in aromatherapy and massage, I understood more about the lymphatic system and why I had reacted so badly. I tried it again – gently! – and had more success. Eventually I came across manual lymphatic drainage and developed my own skin brushing technique, testing and refining it with clients along the way.”
