PRLog - Feb. 21, 2014 - WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- KRAVIS CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS

Celebrates the

NOËL COWARD FESTIVAL PALM BEACH

With Five Days of Screenings, Discussions and Musical Performances

A Flock of Literary & Theatrical Stars Are Arriving to Honor Iconic British Playwright, Showman & Wit

“We all love our country and are proud of it… But you must admit that once you’ve exhausted Palm Beach and California, there aren’t many places to go.”
(“Norma” in TIME REMEMBERED by Noël Coward, 1941)

(West Palm Beach, FL – February 18, 2014)  For fans of Noël Coward (1899-1973), the legendary playwright, author, stage and screen star, raconteur, songwriter, showman and wit, there is definitely some place to go next month when the NOËL COWARD FESTIVAL PALM BEACH – the first such festival in the United States this century – presents five major events at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts.

“Why Noël Coward now?” asks Barry Day, author of The Letters of Noël Coward and a Trustee of the Coward Foundation. “Why is he increasingly revived when so many of his contemporaries have faded? Why do his classic comedies like Private Lives and Blithe Spirit remain among the most frequently produced plays in the world, more than 70 years after they were first staged?”

“Well, as Coward himself once said, if he wanted to write about serious topics, he would inevitably turn it into a comedy. His plays in particular use his witty dialogue to mask genuine feeling. Most of them are really about the difficulty – the impossibility, even – of love. And if that isn't timeless, what is?”

In fact, when he was asked how he would like to be remembered, Noël Coward replied: “He was much loved because he could make people laugh and cry.”

To celebrate his immense influence, talents and contributions to the world’s culture, the Kravis Center is joining with the Cultural Council of Palm Beach County and the Norton Museum of Art to present a series of informative and entertaining events in conjunction with Noël Coward Festival Palm Beach 2014. The Kravis Center will host five days of special events including film screenings, discussions and musical performances with stage stars from London and New York.
