A Torrance Optometry Center Explains the Symptoms and Treatment of Cataracts

Michael Hansen, owner of a Torrance optometry center, explains that cataracts are extremely common and often easily treated. Hansen gives details about the symptoms and treatment of cataracts in his latest blog post.

PRLog - Feb. 20, 2014 - TORRANCE, Calif. -- TORRANCE, CA – February 18, 2014 – Michael Hansen, founder of Advanced Eyecare Center, sees many patients who suffer from cataracts.  There are many concerns and questions among these patients, which is why he recently wrote about cataracts in his newest blog post.  Hansen says, “The disorder is commonly associated with aging. In fact, more than 50% of all Americans over the age of 65 suffer from cataracts.”  He continues by saying, “The lens of a healthy eye is clear and free from any object that can hinder the passage of light. However, protein can build up in the lens and make it cloudy. The cloudiness thus impedes the flow of light. The protein build-up is usually found at the center of the lens, making it prominent.”

Advanced Eyecare Center, a Torrance optometry clinic, educates their patients with information about the different types of cataracts.  Hansen explains, “As mentioned earlier, there are different types of cataracts. The most common type of cataract is related to age.  Remember that half of Americans over the age of 65 have cataracts. By age 90, almost 100% of Americans suffer from this disorder.”  He then explains congenital cataracts by saying, “Babies can develop this disorder as a result of physical injury or poor development of as a fetus.”  Next he talks about secondary cataracts by stating, “Cataracts may develop as a complication from existing disorders such as diabetes. Exposure to ultraviolet rays, radiation and toxic materials may also bring about cataracts.  Certain drugs such as corticosteroids and diuretics may also lead to cataracts.”  The last type mentioned in Hansen’s blog is traumatic cataracts.  He says, “These are cataracts that are caused by severe injury to the eyes.”

Michael Hansen, owner of a Torrance optometry center (http://advancedeyecarecenter.net/south-bay-area/torrance/), wants his readers to understand the reason people get cataracts, as well as the diagnosis, and treatment of it.  He explains, “Cataracts may be diagnosed using standard visual acuity tests. Besides the standard eye tests, your eye care specialists may dilate your pupils so he can see your lens and other parts of your eyes.”
