CHEYENNE, Wyo. - Feb. 20, 2014 - PRLog -- CHEYENNE, WY—OutdoorGearLab, a reputed website comparing a wide varitety of outdoor gear, just published a comparison review for 2014 Women's Ski Jackets. This review serves as an update to the review released last year, and compares more recent products than the previous review. Ten top models were rigorously compared side-by-side by riding lifts and skiing groomers and powder at Mammoth Mountain, California and by skiing backcountry terrain in the Eastern Sierra. This review includes only insulated layers designed to be worn at ski resorts, and does not take into account shells that are designed for use backcountry skiing. These select jackets were evaluated on warmth, water resistance, ventilation, ski specific features, style, and comfort and fit. Testers found that style plays a large part in product selection, since a jacket becomes a person's identity at a ski hill, when faces are obscured by goggles and helmets. Multiple women wore each jacket and provided feedback to this comprehensive review in order to determine the winners. View the full review here:

The Top Scorers are:

The Patagonia Primo Down – Women's takes the Editors' Choice Award.

Insulated with 700 fill down and protected with a waterproof/breathable Gore-Tex exterior, this jacket is warm, lightweight, and fully waterproof. Gear review editor Jessica Haist notes that it is comfortable and protective in all types of ski conditions. Pit-zips allow for ventilation when the sun shines and temperatures climb, and a removable powder skirt keeps snow from going down the pants. Haist states that other features included on the Primo Down make a day of riding lifts convenient and easy, such as a goggle pocket, pass pocket, and a helmet compatible hood.

The Arcteryx Meta wins a Top Pick Award for being the most versatile ski jacket tested.

This piece is lightly insulated with synthetic Coreloft insulation and completed with a waterproof Gore-Tex outer shell. According to editor Jessica Haist, since it is not as thick or heavy as other models, this jacket crosses over to other winter sports such as ice climbing, hiking, camping, and snowshoeing quite easily. It is lightweight, packable, and stylish. High scores in these areas add up  to earn it an award.

The Orage Loulou earns a Top Pick Award as a stylish resort skiing layer.

Haist found that the flattering design of the Orage Loulou, which is available in fun colors, made this jacket stand out from the test group, earning it high marks in style. A stretchy outer material and synthetic insulation combine to make a warm, comfortable, and flexible jacket for skiing. Haist notes that the Loulou is perfect for making a statement while riding lifts at the resort, and this piece is also functional.

The Columbia Whirlibird Interchange – Women's takes the Best Buy award.

The Whirlibird is a three-in-one style jacket, which provides three different ways to wear. The outer, water and wind resistant shell can be worn by itself on warm days for moderate weather protection, the inner insulating layer can be worn by itself around town and after skiing as a casual warm jacket, and both layers can be worn together on cold and stormy days for extra protection. Haist concludes that since this piece is versatile and is available at an inexpensive price, it wins the award for offering the most for the money.

The full review explains the importance of each of the individual scoring metrics and contains detailed individual reviews of these winning jackets, as well as the seven other models that did not earn awards. The review compares these pieces in depth, and also offers Haist's suggestions on how true to size each fits, allowing consumers to select the perfect size for themselves.
