Feb. 20, 2014 - PRLog -- February 18-19,2014- New York, New York - Camella Pinkney-Price and the honorary Queen Mother, Dr.Delois Blakely provided an oral statement on behalf of the New Future Foundation Inc. at the United Nations. The foundation  has partnered with IPAD (Integrated Pastoralist Assistance and Development) an NGO in Marsabit, Kenya to advance the Pastoralist Water and Sanitation (WASH) Project in the Forole Border Region, Marsabit County, Kenya.  The project, which stands as a Best Practice, is expected to benefit a population of over 50,000 people. After years of serving inner city youth throughout New York City Queen Mother and Ms.Pinkney-Price will work to empower the health of women and children in least developed countries. Empowering women in least developed countries is essential to reducing global poverty since women represent most of the world’s poor population. As Queen Mother, Community Mayor of Harlem and Goodwill Ambassador to Africa said at the Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment for Sustainable Development meeting, “we have to take the water of those women’s heads so that they can be empowered”.

The goal of this project is to contribute to drought mitigation measures and capacity building for the nomadic pastoralist communities of the Kenya border region through access to reliable water source and supply, as well as better hygiene and sanitation facilities in a well-managed and peaceful environment.  The short term goal is delivering emergency water (immediately) to three locales in the Forole region, and installs at least three water tanks before the rainy season begins in April 2014. The long term goal is to create an irrigation system, which will eliminate the task of fetching water over far distances and deliver MDG 7 ensuring environmental sustainability.

In conclusion the proposed project will enhance the capacity of the target pastoral communities to plan and manage their own development through sustainable management of natural resources. The capacity of the local community will be built to ensure strong, representative, and accountable grassroots development structures and institutions. Throughout the project implementation process deliberate efforts will be made towards strengthening local community institutions to ensure continuity in services and support post donor agency funding.
