By: MTR Corporation Accompanied by Mr Jay Walder, Chief Executive Officer of MTR Corporation, the Chancellor experienced the highly efficient service of the Tung Chung Line on a ride between Hong Kong Station and Kowloon Station. At Kowloon Station, Mr Walder explained the seamless integration of rail and property development which has significantly enhanced the connectivity of the areas along the alignment. Mr Osborne was then taken to the West Kowloon Terminus site to see the progress of the works and to meet representatives of the British companies working on the project. After completion, the XRL will provide a high-speed rail service between Hong Kong and the Mainland of China. “It was great to meet with Jay Walder and the MTR staff and to see for myself the work going on at West Kowloon Terminus site of Express Rail Link. This is a major infrastructure project on an impressive scale. I was delighted to see that British infrastructure expertise has led to some major contracts for UK companies with UK engineering and design professionals working alongside MTR to deliver a 21st century rail network here in Hong Kong,” said Mr Osborne. “We are very happy the Chancellor could make time to experience our world-class railway operations and to see first hand our capability to design, construct and commission complex new rail projects like the XRL, one of the five railway lines we are currently building in Hong Kong,” said Mr Walder. In London, MTR and partner Arriva, have been operating the London Overground since 2007, transforming the service into one of the best performing railways in the UK with a high customer satisfaction rate. - End - End
