Catholic Charities of West Tennessee to Offer Tax Preparation Assistance in Spanish

 
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Feb. 19, 2014 - PRLog -- Catholic Charities of West Tennessee (CCWTN) will again host two, free VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) events for Spanish speaking tax payers through its Immigration Services Department.  Each event is co-sponsored by Christian Brothers University, United Way of the Mid-South and parishes of the Catholic Diocese of Memphis.

The first VITA event will be held on Sunday, March 16th from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Catholic Church of the Resurrection (5475 Newberry, 38115) in the Hickory Hill area of southeast Memphis. The second event will be held on Sunday, April 6th from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Catholic Church of the Ascension (3680 Ramill Rd, 38128) in Raleigh.

Trained, volunteer tax preparers will be on site along with Spanish to English speaking interpreters to assist in tax preparation. Potential tax payers are encouraged to visit www.ccwtn.org (click on the VITA logo on the homepage) for more information and to view the list materials to bring to the event.

About VITA

The VITA Program offers free tax help to people who make $54,000 or less and need assistance in preparing their tax returns. IRS-certified volunteers provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals in local communities. They can inform taxpayers about special tax credits for which they may qualify such as Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, and Credit for the Elderly or the Disabled.
