Dr. William Thomas of Poway Braces Speaks on Orthodontic Strategies for Sleep Apnea at Kaiser

POWAY, Calif. - Feb. 19, 2014 - PRLog -- Dr. William W. Thomas recently delivered a groundbreaking presentation to Kaiser Permanente on the growing issue of Sleep Breathing Disorders and Obstructive Sleep Apnea (“OSA”).  Orthodontic issues are ever changing and one particular issue of note is OSA, which is creating a new working relationship between orthodontists and physicians to care for a patient’s total health.


During his presentation, Dr. Thomas highlighted the fact that research shows that many OSA problems are rooted in the craniofacial morphologies of patients and many people can be treated successfully with oral appliances and orthodontics.  He also noted that about one in 10 children snore regularly and two to four percent have sleep apnea, according to the American Academy of Otolaryngology Health and Neck Surgery.


Dr. Thomas consistently conducts research about orthodontics and how it effects the overall health of patients.  The presentation was well received by the physicians in attendance.
