New: Knitting with a Tuscan backdrop

Feb. 19, 2014 - PRLog -- The Watermill at Posara (http://www.watermill.net/) – a 17th century mill in rural, north-west Tuscany known for its painting and writing courses – expands into knitting with a brand-new holiday which combines leisurely knitting sessions with wonderful food and wine, plus time to soak up the Italian atmosphere.

Tutored by Rowan (http://www.knitrowan.com/)'s Head Designer, Marie Wallin, the emphasis of the week is all about learn new techniques and tips. With Marie’s guidance, you’ll work on two main projects: an introduction to the world of cabling, where you’ll make a cowl or scarf, and an introduction to slip-stitch colour work and mosaic patterning, which will result in a cushion.

Working steadily at your own place, take inspiration from your spectacular surroundings: a former monastery – complete with pretty cloisters and frescoes – and the grounds of a superb hill-top restaurant, as well as the idyllic Watermill’s secluded millstream gardens. Put down your knitting needles to visit nearby villages, try out various gelaterie and sample the region’s delicious cuisine in local restaurants.

Marie’s experience is second-to-none; her own inspiration comes from the textiles and crafts from far-flung destinations of North Africa, South America and India and, in previous roles, she has designed knitwear for Next, Burton, BHS and Debenhams.

Taking place from 10-17 May, Knitting and La Bella Vita (http://www.watermill.net/watermill-knitting-marie-wallin.php)costs from £1,310 pp (two sharing) including all tuition including all yarns, seven nights’ accommodation, all meals (including local restaurants), drinks and aperitivi, transfers (to/from Pisa), local transport, a mid-week excursion and a Rowan goody bag.
