This unique 10-day tour retraces the journey the Scottish Borderers took to Northern Ireland beginning in the early 17th Century. It would be these Scottish people, who about one hundred years later would emigrate in large numbers to the American Colonies and not only play a significant role in winning America’s independence from England, but also in their migration westward would settle this great land of ours. These were the Scots Irish Presbyterians. The tour was inspired in part by James Webb’s book, Born Fighting.
Dr. Donald S. Frazier, historian, will be the scholar-leader for the tour, providing nightly lectures which will bring life to the story of how the character of these Scottish peoples would be forged through hardship and battles. It was this indomitable spirit that enabled them to carve a home in the forests and glens of America.
The tour will begin at Hadrian’s Wall on the border between Scotland and Ireland, spend four days in Scotland, visiting some of the significant places in Scottish history in the borders area and Edinburgh, then travel by ferry across to Larne, a seaport north of Belfast, for a six-day tour of Northern Ireland. From Larne, the group will travel up the wild Irish coast, through the Glens of Antrim, to the North Atlantic shore, then to Londonderry/
