RAJAPALAIYAM, India - Feb. 16, 2014 - PRLog -- Indian researchers (Theivasanthi and Alagar) have identified a novel procedure for making nanopowders. The group, based at Centre for Research and Post Graduate Department of Physics, Ayya Nadar Janaki Ammal College comments: “To our best knowledge, this is the first demonstration of using a dry milling method for the production of nanopowder from food product.” The researchers have explained that the milling procedures for making Jackfruit seed nanopowder in their earlier report [Theivasanthi et al, arXiv:1110.0346 (http://arxiv.org/abs/1110.0346)]. This study concluded that the produced jackfruit seed nanopowder has a lot of potential in food, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, paper, bio-nanotechnology industries, especially its uses as thickener and binding agent. They have explained the making process of Titanium Oxide nanopowder in their recent report adopting the same procedure [Theivasanthi et al, arXiv:1307.1091 (http://arxiv.org/abs/1307.1091)]. Also, they have commented that this procedure can be extended for making nanopowders from other food products like spices and many more. This procedure is also very useful for the preparation of other metal oxide nanopowders like Zinc Oxide, Alumina, Copper Oxide, Ferric Oxide and many more inorganic / organic nanopowders.

It is a well known that nano-materials have been synthesized using different methods like mechanical, chemical, bio-synthesis etc. Every method has its own pros and cons. But, this method is the only one which makes large quantity of nanopowders within a short span of time and economically cheapest one.

This method is supporting civil / structural engineering field also too. In these fields large quantities of materials are required with weight in Metric ton. Currently, these fields are using Nano sized powders like fly ash, silica, titania etc. This dry milling method is able to supply nanopowders with large quantities to these fields.

The researchers adding comment: “Further research related to application oriented of this process / material is going on.” Interested collaborators / researchers, please contact us, for collaborative works.
