Michael P. Cangemi CISA, CPA, CGMA - Recipient of the 2014 NJ ISACA President’s Award

CRANFORD, N.J. - Feb. 13, 2014 - PRLog -- The President of the ISACA New Jersey Chapter annually recognizes an individual of the IT audit, IT security, and control profession who has made significant, continuous contributions to membership growth and development of ISACA, as well as to the New Jersey Chapter and to the IT audit & control profession. NJ ISACA will present this award and other recognition awards at its Annual General Membership (AGM) Meeting on June 19, 2014 at the Hilton Woodbridge in Iselin, NJ.

We are honored to present this year’s NJ ISACA President’s award to Mr. Michael P. Cangemi, CISA,CPA,CGMA.

The following is a brief summary of Mr. Cangemi’s contributions: he served as the Editor-in-Chief of the IS Control Journal, in which his regular column, Issues & Comments appeared from 1987 to 2007.  Mr. Cangemi was the co-moderator of the NJ ISACA IA Director’s Roundtable in 2009 and 2010;a speaker at the ISACA 2013 Northeast Regional Conference; a participant in our chapter’s January, 2014 educational sessions. He served in numerous ISACA and IIA professional capacities, including International President of ISACA and a recipient of the NY ISACA Wasserman Award; served many years on the IIA Research Foundation (IIARF) Board of Research Advisors and the IIARF Board of Trustees. Mr. Cangemi served as representative on the Board of COSO (2007-2008), during which the Guidance on Monitoring Internal Control Systems was drafted and issued in January 2009. Currently he serves on the Rutgers Continuous Audit Advisory Board (Founding Member) and was named a Senior Fellow in 2013.

Mr. Cangemi’s career progressed from accountant/auditor to CAE, to CFO, CEO and Board member. His experiences as a CAE were published in his book, Managing the Audit Function. The book, now in its third edition, was featured in the business section of the Sunday New York Times in August 2002 and translated into Chinese in 2005 and Serbian in 2013.

Mr. Cangemi is the former President, Chief Executive Officer and Director of Etienne Aigner Group, Inc., (1991-2004) and President and Chief Executive Officer of Financial Executives International, the professional association for senior-level corporate financial executives (FEI 2007-08). He currently serves as President of Cangemi Company LLC, which he founded with a significant focus on Technology for Business and GRC. Mr. Cangemi recently completed a two-year term on the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB 2007-8) Standards Advisory Council and served as a member of the FASB’s Financial Accounting Standards Advisory Council (FASAC).

Mr. Cangemi is a senior advisor to Oversight Systems, CaseWare RSM, and a footwear company. In 1991, he co-authored Auditing in an EDP Environment with Peter Reed. The Cangemi Audit & IT Audit Library was established in 2000 at the University of Mississippi’s Auditing Archival Center to house his collection of over 250 books on Auditing and EDP Auditing

Mr. Cangemi is a Certified Public Accountant, a Certified Information Systems Auditor, a Certified Global Management Accountant (Honorary), a life member of FEI, an honorary life member of ISACA, and a member of the AICPA, Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), and the N.Y. Society of CPAs.
