What Can You Do with 500 Pounds of Beef Jerky? Send it to Our Troops!

PACIFIC, Mo. - Feb. 12, 2014 - PRLog -- The Eureka High School Soccer team delivered nearly 500 pounds of beef jerky collected during the team’s second annual Beef Jerky Drive to Husky Corporation headquarters in Pacific after the company agreed to donate shipping to troops stationed in Afghanistan.

Soccer team members collected beef jerky and cash donations from the Eureka community and at local sporting events in an effort to support troops defending our country in overseas deployments. Beef jerky is an item the troops particularly look forward to receiving from home.

“I think it's pretty cool that we can do something as a community to help out our troops who are fighting for us,” said Justin Armfield, High School Junior and captain of the Eureka Soccer Team. “It's also pretty awesome that we can hopefully brighten a troop member’s day with a gift from home! It's truly amazing.”

“The whole community is behind this effort and they look forward to it in the fall.  The boys on our team love doing it. We appreciate Husky’s generosity for shipping the jerky to our troops,” said Eureka Soccer Coach Gary Schneider.

The jerky was shipped in 31 boxes using Husky Corporation logistical resources that transport the company’s industry leading fuel nozzles and accessories to locations all over the world.

The beef jerky drive has special meaning for Husky Corporation President Grenville Sutcliffe, who was an Army Special Forces first lieutenant who received the Purple Heart.  Mr. Sutcliffe's son Cliff is a Marine Corps major who flies Harrier combat aircraft and son-in-law Dr. Tyson Becker is an Army lieutenant colonel and surgeon. Both have served overseas deployments.

“This is a terrific effort by the team. I was in Vietnam. When we would receive surprises like this, it really made our day. To me this is just great and we can’t thank the Eureka Soccer team enough,” Mr. Sutcliffe said.

The beef jerky will be sent to troops deployed in Afghanistan who have connections to local communities.
