SAN DIEGO - Feb. 17, 2014 - PRLog -- When America’s wealthiest inventor, entrepreneur, and financier is kidnapped, Detective Pat O’Malley finds himself returning to the deep South to investigate a case that is nearly beyond belief. Before he knows it, O’Malley is pulled into a widening gyre of anti-Semitism in Jim Musgrave’s newest mystery, “Disappearance at Mount Sinai: A Pat O’Malley Historical Mystery” (ISBN 9781489527196; English Majors Publishers, 2013).

Civil War Veteran Pat O’Malley never dreamed he’d become a detective. But after the death of his employer, Edgar Allan Poe, lured him into searching out a serial killer, he found himself taking on more cases. Now O’Malley faces his most mysterious case yet—the kidnapping of Jewish inventor, financier, and philanthropist, Dr. Arthur David Mergenthaler.

Accompanied by his father Robert and confidante Becky Charming, who practices a “transcendental” approach to crime-solving,” O’Malley follows the clues to the deep South. There he infiltrates an anti-Semitic group by posing as a Professor from Oxford University. What he discovers next is not solely a case of racism, but also a mystery rooted in Jewish folklore. Dr. Mergenthaler and his eight-year-old son, Seth, have a unique bond that draws on a belief that they are Mazikeen, half-angel and half-human. And a worldwide eugenics group wants to know their secrets.

O’Malley will be forced to use all his talents to rescue the doctor and his son, including subterfuge, transcended mind techniques, logical deductions, and pseudo-scientific disguise. Before it’s over, he will have narrowed down all the prime suspects and even come across a conspiracy involving the President of the United States. And author Musgrave will pull out all the stops in this book to create an incredible fictional world that blends science, history, folklore, steampunk, and mystery. H.G. Wells meets Jules Verne meets the Bible in “Disappearance at Mount Sinai.”

Readers are raving over “Disappearance at Mount Sinai” and all of Musgrave’s books. Henrietta Champion at Amazon declares, “I love Patrick O’Malley!...I really did have a good time reading this book, and did it all in one sitting.” Richard Blake of Reader Views states that the book has “engaging dialog, intriguing mystery, and fast-moving action to keep the reader in suspense right up to an intense dramatic unexpected conclusion.” And Steampunk philanderer and Tea Dueling Champion Kurt Khave says of the author, “Jim Musgrave maintains his high level of detail, era-specific description, and narrative style as he makes a seamless transition from historical mystery to a world of ever-increasing supernatural and steampunk wonders.”

About the Author

After teaching college writing for over twenty-four years, Jim Musgrave was lured out of retirement and over to the “dark side” when he developed a love for Steampunk literature. That love has led him to the Pat O’Malley Steampunk Mysteries series, featuring an American detective solving cases just after the Civil War. It seems to be working for him since his fiction has won high accolades, including being a Bram Stoker Award Finalist and Heekin Foundation Award Finalist. At least five books in the series are currently planned and Musgrave is also creating comic book versions.
