First of Sussex Toastmasters will hold their club level International Speech contest on Tuesday, February 18th, from 7:00-8:30 pm at the First Presbyterian Church of Sparta - Annex, 32 Main St (behind "The Flower Box"), Sparta Township, NJ. Community members are encouraged to attend, whether or not they are a member. See for yourself how Toastmasters develops ordinary to less-than-confident speakers into professional speakers and leaders, all in a supportive environment while having a good time. Guests are welcome to attend free of charge to witness first-hand some of the best speakers in the area.
The International Speech contest requires contestants to present a five-to seven-minute speech in English on any topic. Judging criteria include speech content, originality, organization, gestures, style and timing. Participants must be age 18 or older, be club members in good standing and have already delivered six Toastmasters speeches from their Toastmasters Competent Communicator manual.
Club President Jacqueline Crosby says, "Our club consists of an eclectic group of members who have one thing in common: they are committed to becoming effective speakers and leaders and to helping everyone in the club achieve the same goal. The International Speech contest is not only fun, but it gives us the opportunity to raise ourselves up to another level as excellent communicators and leaders.”
Contest winners will move on to compete in the Area contest at the Denville Community Church, 190 Diamond Spring Rd, Denville, NJ on Tuesday, March25th, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Area contest winners will compete in the Division contest on
Tuesday, April 29th, at 6:00 pm in East Hanover NJ and Division winners will compete at the District level on May 18th at the Toastmasters District Conference at the Morristown Hyatt in Morristown, NJ.
