DJ Sensation, Missy Jay, Balances Impending Motherhood with Superstar Career Appearances Worldwide

CAMDEN, U.K. - Feb. 11, 2014 - PRLog -- The professional DJ business is a highly competitive field, especially for women. Missy Jay is breaking down those barriers on an international level and will soon be adding the title of “Mom” to her already impressive list of credits.

She’s due to give birth close to Valentine’s Day 2014 and plans on going back to work immediately. It’s a decision that has garnered both criticism and praise. Her last set was on Dec. 25, 2013 in Doha, Qatar, and she will return there for three gigs at Easter 2014, followed by a performance in Switzerland. The popular DJ sees no reason why motherhood and a superstar career must be mutually exclusive.
“I think that if you love what you do, stick on the choices that you made in your life and accept what life has given you, that will make you enjoy it all, in it’s good sides and not,” said Missy Jay. “The key is to create a good work-life balance.
“Whatever I’m doing, I do it 100 percent,” she continued. “I need to be surrounded by love to make my life go to the max. I plan to continue my long haul tours abroad, continue my career as a DJ and bring my baby with me most of the time. Obviously, I will not be able to do it every time.”
A strong work ethic, commitment to her art, and love for her child are the motivating factors behind Missy Jay’s decision to return to work so quickly. Maintaining a career and being a full-time mother requires a great deal of inner strength. It’s a quality that Missy Jay has employed on her rise to the top of the DJ scene and one that will serve her equally well as she takes on the new role of single mother to an infant that is every bit as demanding as her most avid fans.
“I don’t want to give up who I am,” said Missy Jay. “It’s important that I stay true to myself. I can do that and have a family, too.”
A rising star on the underground music scene, the DJ has performed around the globe and was rated one of the 10 Best Female DJs Worldwide by DJette.com. An astute business woman, she operates her own independent music label, MJM Records. Her talents earned her the support of music producer, house and techno DJ, and Grammy Award winner, Dubfire, at Amnesia for Cocoon Parties.
Born in Italy, Missy Jay had an exceptional ear for music, even as a child. As a toddler, she began using the piano to reproduce by ear the songs she heard. Her parents cultivated that talent with music lessons and she played in various bands as a teen. She settled in London at the age of 23 where she discovered dance music and left classical piano by the wayside.
Missy Jay received her degree in Audio Engineering from the School of New Audio Music Media in Milan in 2006. She followed that with specialized studies in Electronic Music Production. The sweetheart of the DJ scene continues to study and hone her abilities. She’s currently studying harmony and piano as a prelude to producing her own music.
The year 2007 was a year of firsts for the artist. She won the Matrix Female DJ Contest, a nationwide Italian competition featuring the best and brightest DJ talents. She was offered the opportunity to tour with other female competitors.
She was signed to the Starlight Music label in 2007, releasing her debut track, “Nobody’s Perfect”, which made the number 9 position on Ministry of Sound sales charts. She produced, arranged and provided vocals for the single that received praise from the DJ and music producer duo Deep Dish.
The DJ went on to release her first vinyl E.P in cooperation with other Starlight Music artists in 2009. Since then, the high-energy music maven reached the number 5 position on Beatport, the world’s largest DJ music community.
She’s a popular attraction at Glam and Glitter Parties in Ibiza, with a repertoire that runs the gamut from punk rock and tribal to electronic wave. The DJ has been burning up dance floors with her mash up of electro, house, pop and hip-hop, along with dub step, dirty house and R&B. Her professional microphone skills and 10-year dancing career make her uniquely suited for exclusive DJ venues.
The talented DJ won the World Top Girls DJs contest held in France in 2012, along with Best Female European DJ of 2012. Missy Jay’s innate ability to read an audience and adapt her music mixes for maximum effect has earned her the admiration of fans worldwide and the respect of her peers. Missy Jay’s music and mixes have led festivities in countries from Albania to the United States and all points in between.
Missy Jay launched her MJM Records label as a way to write, produce and perform her own music, and she’s always looking for new, unsigned talent. Her love affair and obsession with synthesizers drives her passion. “My music is total party music,” said Missy Jay. “It’s always punchy, dramatic and electronically influenced.”
The DJ’s fame and opportunities are growing exponentially. The Vogue Fashion Night Out 2013 in Florence saw her performing live for the runway set. She caught the eye of the emerging Italian fashion brand, La Maison Du Couturier, who chose to clothe her in the firm’s distinctive fashions.
Life is looking bright for Missy Jay. The addition of her son is a blessing and she hopes to be a good example and role model. The DJ has worked hard to attain success and struggled to achieve what others told her was impossible. The career-minded artist noted that everything she’s worked toward is within reach – both a child and a career – and she intends to direct her strength toward pursuing all her goals.
“I definitely want to be a leading example for my son – to find out what his goals are, what he’s passionate about, to help him achieve what he wants,” said Missy Jay, “but it’s important that he learn the value of hard work and be like his inspiring mom.”
