This special journey will allow participants to learn all about sake classification, the brewing process, and the historical significance of what the Japanese sometimes call the “drink of the gods”. In addition, at select sake breweries, samplings of various sakes and Japanese cuisine will be offered.
Ms. Niikawa earned her prestigious Sake Sommelier certificate at the Sake Service Institute (SSI), in Tokyo, Japan. In addition, she is the President of Sake Discoveries. She has the enviable position as Sake Sommelier, to the nation’s most prestigious sake restaurant located in New York City – Sakagura. According to KIE’s Assistant General Manager, Bill Sarcona, “She is most excited to share this knowledge in her home country and to use this exclusive private tour as her platform.”
Mr. Timothy Sullivan, like Ms. Niikawa is a writer and world renowned as the "Sake Samurai". He was awarded this title in 2007 by the Japan Sake Brewer's Association in recognition of his efforts to promote sake outside of Japan.He is also the founder of UrbanSake.com, a site devoted exclusively to sharing the appreciation, knowledge and joy of Japanese Sake. He also created the first blog in the U.S. devoted to only sake.
