PHOENIX - Feb. 11, 2014 - PRLog -- National touring and recording artist Scott Helmer, who has opened for iconic acts including Heart, Eddie Money, Big Country and 3 Doors Down, is working to help historic theaters across the US raise $1m and preserve their legacy for future generations.

The official ‘Support YOUR Cause Tour’ begins May 1, 2014 and will continue through until May 1, 2015. “I am really excited to be raising awareness across America about the importance of maintaining these venues for future generations,’ Helmer says.“These American treasures represent so much to so many and form an invaluable architectural and entertainment asset to countless towns and communities. If I can help preserve their legacy, even just by raising their profiles one community at a time, then I am delighted to help out.”

Following the success of his 100-date 2013 summer tour, Helmer is now offering to lend his time and talents by performing solo-acoustic, free of charge at any charity or fundraising event across America, with the goal of helping all raise $1m within one year. Theaters can use the singer’s performance as an opportunity to raise funds for their own operations, an important cause within the community, or both.

To date more than thirty-five historic theaters have signed up for Helmer’s tour, including:

Previously, Helmer has played benefits for Wounded Warrior Project, Operation Comfort, homeless shelters, anti-violence centers, toy drives, pet charities, victims of the 2012 Colorado wildfire and many deserving individuals, such as Elvis Conaway (http://www.scotthelmer.com/blogs/news/6886033-scott-helmer-to-perform-at-sidelines-grill-in-chandler-to-raise-funds-for-5-year-old-elvis-conaway-s-liver-transplant), a young boy in desperate need of a liver transplant. The singer is also an enthusiastic volunteer for Musicians On Call (http://www.musiciansoncall.org/), a program that brings the healing power of music to hospital patients.

Helmer will not handle any money or donations on behalf of charitable organizations during his performances on the ‘Support YOUR Cause Tour’. “I am simply offering to perform at any fundraising event free of charge, to help them raise money and awareness for their cause,” he explains.

The musician is equally happy to be the headliner or mixed in the line-up with other artists to help out any good cause across the US, no matter how big or small. In advance of each show, Helmer’s team will work to obtain TV and radio performances and print coverage for the artist, furthering promotion for the event. His only requirement is that the charity has a goal to raise at least $5,000 during their event.

“In 2008 I made a huge mistake and lost everything. Without the help of my family and a few close friends, I would have been living on the streets,” he explains of his reasons behind the campaign. “So from my own experience, I know just how important a support system can be to help out with even the most basic of human needs; food, shelter and most importantly, hope.”

To help offset his touring expenses while performing for free, Helmer will be selling copies of his CD, Wake Me When It’s Over (https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/wake-me-when-its-over-ep/id657625285), at each show. Recorded at the Waterfront Studios (http://www.waterfrontstudios.org/Waterfront_Studio/Henry_Hirsch.html) of Grammy award-winning producer Henry Hirsch (whose credits include Lenny Kravitz, Madonna and Mick Jagger), this contagious, radio-friendly rock album was written and performed by Helmer and his photographer-musician brother, Rich Helmer (http://richhelmer.com/). Its songs describe journeys of pain and loss, but ultimately point towards a pathway of hope.

“I want to use my passion for music to help those people and organizations that help others, even if it’s only in a small way; like performing and bringing a bit more awareness to their cause at a fundraising event,” he says. “I hope what I am doing inspires others to do the same; to help others by doing what they love.”

New dates will be announced each week leading up to the tour launch in May. Historic theaters wishing to book Helmer for a solo-acoustic performance at their fundraising event any time between May 1, 2014 and May 1, 2015, can do so by completing this registration form (http://www.scotthelmer.com/pages/support-your-cause-tour-2014-2015-registration-form).
