Beacon Press author Bill Ayers joins Source Booksellers for a Book Talk and Book Signing

DETROIT - Feb. 10, 2014 - PRLog -- On Wednesday, March 5, 2014, author and activist Bill Ayers will discuss his book Public Enemy: Confessions of an American Dissident at Source Booksellers in Detroit’s Midtown.

When vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin accused candidate Barack Obama of “palling around with terrorists” at a rally during the 2008 presidential campaign, the crowd exploded with calls to “Kill him! Kill him!”   “I couldn’t tell for sure whether it was me or Senator Obama who was the target of those chants,” writes Bill Ayers, who at the time had been a professor of education for twenty years at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

In Public Enemy, the sequel to his controversial memoir Fugitive Days, Ayers tells his side of the story, including how he navigated a multimillion-dollar right wing media campaign aimed solely at blacklisting and demonizing him. He charts his life from the moment he and his wife, Bernardine Dohrn, emerged from a decade on the run as members of the Weather Underground through his many years as a teacher, father, and social justice advocate.  Through it all, and from a vantage point that is uniquely his, Ayers offers a look at what happens when the truth about one’s life becomes the victim of political brawling and rumors get amplified by a media apparatus intent on fueling public paranoia.

The Bill Ayers Book Talk and Book Signing is 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at The Auburn Great Room, upstairs from Source Booksellers at 4240 Cass in Midtown. The event, which includes a reception, is free and open to the public. For more information, call the store at (313) 832-1155. Visit Source Booksellers at http://www.facebook.com/Source Booksellers.
