The High Chaparral, which aired from 1967 to 1971 on NBC, centers on Big John Cannon and his dream to carve a ranch out of the Arizona territory.  He, his family and ranch hands face adversity from the climate, warring Apaches, bandits, prejudice and lawlessness.  The show is historic because it cast Latino and Native American actors in roles that broke stereotypes, a first for the television industry during the time of the Civil Rights movement.
