“We are taking the LA Marathon by storm,” said Brian Tom, founder of Blind Start of America. Through the L.A. marathon, the organization is aiming to raise a minimum of $5,000 that will go into scholarships for blind or visually impaired individuals. The scholarships are for higher education or retraining individuals in a new field of employment. BLINDSTART hopes to raise these funds by implementing its "20/20 vision" plan. This plan will have the participants and the volunteer guides ask twenty people to donate a minimum of twenty dollars. The organization is also encouraging everyone to donate to the runners at http://www.firstgiving.com/ For more information, please contact Mary Swetka Yu or visit our website at http://www.BLINDSTART.org About Blind Start of America Blind Start of America is a non-profit 501(c) 3 organization dedicated to helping blind and visually impaired individuals to learn and develop job skills to enable them to ultimately lead lives of independence. The organization achieves this through education, training, counseling, communication, and technology. Entrepreneur and CEO Brian Tom founded Blind Start of America in 2006. Brian, who is also visually impaired, hopes to bridge the gap between the blind and the sighted by participating and creating events that push the limits of what the blind are expected to do. End
