The event opened with a video tribute to Mr. Lasorda, followed by a rousing introduction by congregant Ben Platt, who handed the microphone to the 86 year old baseball legend. Mr. Lasorda shared profound life lessons from the stage, speaking on the topics of baseball and motivation to over 150 attendees, ages eight through eighty, all wearing their Dodger Blues.
The lecture was followed by a brief question and answer session. Mr. Lasorda was asked how long he has been in baseball, to which he replied, “This is my 65th year with the Dodgers, and 64th married.” The event closed with the children singing, “Take Me Out to the Ballgame,” and then hotdogs were served.
“Baseball Day with Tommy Lasorda” is one in a series of Temple Emanuel’s Intergenerational Events; an ongoing effort to connect children, teens, adults, and seniors through innovative programs and activities.
