4 Weird Valentine’s Day Calorie Burning Activities

But Winnipeg weight loss expert and best selling author, Cameron Makarchuk shows how some “weird” activities can actually act as “damage control” and help you burn off those extra calories this Valentine’s Day. “There are a lot of activities that can help burn a few extra calories, and have some fun while you’re doing it. No gym required,” explains Makarchuk, owner of Boom Bodyshaping Studio in Winnipeg, MB and host of the web show “Reengineer You”.

Something as simple as romantic dancing can actually burn up to 103 calories per half hour, and even more if you’re doing something a little more aggressive like a tango.

“Dancing is a great way to spend some quality time with your partner, get out of the house and get moving. Something that’s hard to do in the middle of winter here in Winnipeg,” explains Makarchuk.

Makarchuk then adds, “if you throw in some light kissing you can add another 68 calories per hour or 238 calories per half hour of more intense, heavy making out.  Not a bad way to burn a couple hundred calories.”

The biggest “bang for your buck” though, as Makarchuk puts it, is having sex.  A half hour of having sex can burn up to 144 calories, depending how active you are.

“And that’s not to mention the psychological and other physiological benefits of having sex,” Makarchuk adds.

Of course none of this should replace your time at the gym and consistently eating well, explains Makarchuk, “But every little bit helps.”
