Vintage images coupled with facts and anecdotes culled by local author Chris Hunter reveal the fascinating history of legendary locals in Pacifica. Nicknamed “Scenic Pacifica,” this coastal community has cultivated individuals whose achievements in politics, science, business, education, the arts and sports have left an indelible mark on the area.
“The strength of Pacifica, other than its natural beauty, has always been its people,” said author Chris Hunter. The book covers both town greats and unsung heroes like Rob Schneider, who grew up in the community and has given back through his Rob Schneider Music Foundation; Nick Gust, who owned and operated a prominent family restaurant and hotel: Mildred Owen, a singer and teacher who was instrumental in the creation of the cultural arts series in Pacifica; and Horace Hinshaw, who single-handedly promoted youth sports in Pacifica for decades and created the Pacifica Sports Hall of Fame.
