On Thursday February 20th at 6pm the Sebastopol Center for the Arts, (282 South High Street in Sebastopol, CA) will unveil its amazingly brilliant-- color themed exhibition, titled In The Red . This new exhibition features artwork in all media that reflects a large variety of artistic presentations of the color red.

This show had over 450 entries that came from 19 states across the country. In a blur of activity many members of the Sebastopol Center for the Arts visual arts committee, and juror Susie Kantor spent a full day reviewing and selecting the show. This show, the biggest one this year, is full of many different mediums and all in the hue of red. Although highly competitive, the result is a spectacular show that will feature 72 pieces.

Juror, Susie Kantor reflected, "I am really impressed with the quality of the work and the varied ways the artists use red; sometimes the whole work or sometimes just a small accent"

“After the serenity and peace of our last show "vessels", this exhibition will embrace the energetic and powerful. - red,  primary color, color of blood and fire, energy!!” said Catherine Devriese, Visual Arts Program Manager at the Sebastopol Center for the Arts.

This is a chance for the viewer to find new meaning in this very important primary color- As Audrey Flack points out in her book Art and Soul "if you can't make it good make it big, if you can't make it big make it red." ---come to be inspired this show will leave you seeing red. Running from February 20 through April 4-  In the Galletta Gallery - gallery hours are from 10-4 Tuesday – Friday and 1-4 on Saturdays.

Susie Kantor is curatorial assistant, visual arts at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. Gallery II    "THE WORLD UP CLOSE" by Deborah Garber    Deborah Garber's oils and pastels represent a non-traditional approach to a traditional subject. She creates close-up views of flowers that are imbued with a monumental feel, sometimes incorporating intricately patterned backgrounds that contrast with the more loosely painted, organic petal shapes. In contrast to her larger-scale flower paintings, Garber's tiny newest works require the viewer to get up close to peer into the world of her intimate, intensely colored landscapes.

Gallery III    "INFRARED LANDSCAPES" by William Anderson  "I have been actively engaged in photography for forty plus years.  I find that infrared capture can be used to create an image bordering on the abstract.  High contrast and composition in infrared cause images to sparkle and can tweak the imagination to see other than reality (a seascape can appear as a moonscape, a dirt road as the path to another world)."
