Supa Doors’ humble beginning originate in South Africa, where a lifelong woodworker, inventor, and door fabricator named Ronald Amoretti began testing MDF as a preferred alternative to solid wood in the 1980s. The resistance to warping, twisting, and bowing, along with the durability, heftiness, recycled nature, and great finish, gave him great hope that MDF doors would become the first choice for paint grade stile and rail doors. In addition to using MDF, Ronald devised a special lamination process that takes two “half thickness” doors and laminates them together. While this requires more fabrication time, Ronald felt this would create the longest lasting, most durable door on the market.
Ian and David Fisher also saw the great value of MDF doors and recruited Ronald and others to come to San Antonio TX to begin Supa Doors. As the earliest manufacturer devoted solely to MDF doors, Supa Doors quickly became a leading force in introducing MDF doors to the nation. The first markets that fully embraced MDF were the high humidity areas of the Southeast and particularly Florida, where MDF worked like a charm.
