Feb. 3, 2014 - PRLog -- Minneapolis, Minnesota USA – The International Species Information System, (ISIS)--the global non-profit leader in animal records management and conservation solutions to more than 800 zoos and aquariums—announces the launch of a partnership with the Society of Zoos and Aquariums of Brazil (SZB).

ISIS will collaborate closely with the SZB and with Brazilian zoological institutions to define animal records management best practices.  With complete and accurate animal records, curators are able to make informed recommendations, veterinarians can provide appropriate treatments, and keepers can perform animal husbandry.  Comprehensive records are essential for conservation as a larger number of species are managed within, and across, country borders.

“Brazil is a country with one of the highest rates of biodiversity in the world.  The Zoological Information Management System (ZIMS) by ISIS, is an essential tool for Brazilian institutions to track and examine life and collection histories, and also to make their data available to the global zoological community,” said Dr. Yara de Melo Barros, President of the Society of Zoos and Aquariums of Brazil.  “With the use of ZIMS, animal inventories will be much more comprehensive, accurate, and up-to-date.”

Added J. Peter Donlon, Director, Global Member Development: “This Agreement with the SZB is very exciting in that Brazil represents the latest national zoological association committed to promoting the highest standards in animal records management.  Brazil’s efforts are critical to successful biodiversity management, and their contributions will help to further promote effective animal conservation initiatives worldwide.”
