No doubt that in the next 10 years we’ll see some revolutionary “new” workout.  It will become huge, and people will flock to its type of training.  The reality is, however, that there aren’t really any “new” types of training.  There are only new fads or trends in the workout community.  Some are actually just revived from a time when they were more popular.  On the other hand, we can consider that maybe training will remain in the same direction as it’s going.  Who knows really, but it’s fun to talk about it!  Before we talk about the future though, let’s go over the current champions.

Let’s talk about the most thriving fad today, crossfit.  I want to preface this conversation with the statement that crossfit is an incredible style of training.  It certainly works, and will put you in phenomenal shape.  But everyone talks about it like its some new awesome way to workout.  Let’s see, and this is a total oversimplification but bear with me, cross training is just cleans, snatches, squats, sprints, pull-ups, push-ups, and some endurance running.  Do them all in one 40 minute training sessionk, and you have crossfit.  Nothing new about any of those things.  When I was in highschool we used to lift (cleans, snatches, etc.), then we would run bleachers, then we’d run a few miles.  We did not do this in 40 minutes of course, or in one complete set, but I think think this pretty closely resembles a crossfit session.

Moving on to the next most popular form of training, well it’s more related to a place, bodybuilding workouts.  I can see the appeal with all those big muscles.  I also see the appeal of those big gyms – rows and rows of machines, treadmills, and weights.  What I’ve noticed in these places is the bizzaro of crossfit.  While crossfit is extreme in intensity and short sessions, big gyms and body builders are extreme in non-intensity and long sessions.  Again, I want to say that lifting for four hours works, at least as far as building muscle.  Four hours though, that’s incredible!  Who has four hours to lift!

To get to the point of this article, thanks for pushing through it by the way, which one of these or a new style or place lies in the future?  Big gyms will most likely always be in business, but personally; I think working out at home is the future.  Looking at the two styles of working out that reign supreme at this moment, you have to give the edge to crossfit style training.  It’s a fast, “killer” workout that has more desired results as far as physique (lean and cut).  Why I believe home is the inevitable destination is because going to a crossfit gym is unnecessary.  A clean bar, rubber weights, a kettlebell, and even a squat rack, if you’re smart about it, should only run you $600.00.  If you purchase all new and expensive equipment it’s more like over $1000.  Though, consider that these will last you forever.  Furthermore, you could achieve an equal workout to as in a CF gym or big gym on your own with just a kettlebell.
