John Koskinen has decided that no employees shall be furloughed in 2014 after more than $500 million was cut from the IRS’ fiscal 2013 budget.
“Given our very limited budget resources, our phone lines are going to be extremely busy and, unfortunately, there will be, frequently, extensive wait times — much longer than we would like,” Koskinen added.
The IRS is set to receive $11.3 billion in funding for FY 2014.
At NOAA, there was a long freeze in hiring and training programs due to the sequester last year and that is about to come to an end.
“The omnibus gives us certainty about our spending authority for this fiscal year and restores some of the funds cut under sequestration,”
Congress allocated $5.3 billion in fiscal 2014 spending for NOAA, $310 million more than it received in the fiscal 2013 budget.
