Until now focused exclusively on the cereals, petcare, confectionery and other foods sectors, the Nelson, Lancashire-based business is aiming to expand its activities in 2014 to cover pharmaceuticals, gifts and toys, petcare and all dry food categories.
To support this planned development – and to maintain the company’s excellent record for customer service and quality – SGL Co-packing has just made three significant senior management appointments and introduced a new visual identity (see link below for new logo).
Andrew Palmer joins parent company Keswick Enterprises as Chairman of SGL Co-packing. Andrew has led the leading logistics services provider Suttons Group since 2005, and has extensive domestic and international business experience – especially in managing change and expansion. David Hogg becomes Head of the subsidiary company’s Technical Support functions, while Frank McMahon is appointed Sales Manager. The trio will support the existing divisional management team led by Margaret Bell, divisional General Manager.
Currently a Non-Executive Director of Thomas Cradley Holdings Ltd – the holding company for all subsidiaries of the £155 million Suttons logistics group – Andrew was previously Group Managing Director of Suttons from 2005 to 2013. Before that he was Managing Director of DTS Logistics from 2001 to 2005. He has also held senior management positions at Suttons International, Bibby Line Group, Transport Development Group and Procter & Gamble. Andrew is an honours graduate of the University of Liverpool, and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (and winner of its Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012). He is married with one son, and lives in the Chester area.
David Hogg brings a wealth of experience in the areas of food manufacture and packaging. He started his career in 1975 as a General Manager at Dalgety PLC. Following experience with William Jacksons and St Ivel, he has held senior management positions at Northern Foods, Premier Foods and Dairy Crest. Since 2009 he has worked as a food industry consultant, advising companies on strategy, structure and performance. David has a record of developing organisations to deliver enhanced performance, and is accustomed to meeting the service requirements of the major retailers. He is married with two children and lives in Chester.
Frank McMahon has extensive sales experience in the pharmaceuticals, grocery, gift and other non-food consumer product and B2B sectors, along with the management of national sales forces. He was previously Business Development Manager at Faith Products Ltd (a brand leader in the health store sector), and from 2008 to 2010 was Sales Manager at ViforPharma – Potters UK Ltd. Prior to gaining experience at Orange and Lornamead, he held the role of National Account Controller with Pharmacia Ltd from 1996 to 2002, where his responsibilities included launching Nicorette into the leading grocery multiples. From 1988 to 1996 he was Trade Sector Manager at Smithkline Beecham, where his achievements included the launch of Lucozade Sport into the UK market. Frank has a Business Studies diploma from the University of Lancashire. He is married with two grown-up children and lives in Chorley.
