Local Photographer Wins International Award

PITSTONE, U.K. - Feb. 3, 2014 - PRLog -- Pitstone – Matthew Bishop of Matthew Bishop Photography based in Pitstone, Buckinghamshire, received the prestigious title of ‘Wedding Photographer of the Year’ at the Societies Photographic Convention in London, sponsored by Mario Acerboni.

The Societies 12^th annual convention took place over five days at the Hilton London Metropole, attended by 14,000 leading figures and companies within the photographic industry, such as Canon and Olympus, culminating in the glittering awards ceremony presented by television presenter Maggie Philbin, on the evening of Saturday 18 January 2014.

Throughout each preceding year, entrants are required to submit images each month to the eight societies for competition and judging.  In this instance, The Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers (SWPP).  Matthew Bishop received six Gold Awards during 2013, the highest accolade.  Each Gold Award is then judged by a select panel of highly qualified world-class photographers in order to choose nominees for the coveted ‘Photographer of the Year’ title.

In addition to Wedding Photographer of the Year, awards were presented for a further 30+ categories such as fashion, sport, travel and wildlife.  In 2013, photographers from around the world submitted more than 13,877 images to the Societies.

“In December I found out that two of my photographs were nominated”, said Matthew.  “It’s an amazing achievement to even be nominated at this level, so I was absolutely thrilled to be chosen as a winner.  The Societies run Europe’s largest photographic convention and the whole event was crammed with experts.  I’m delighted that my talent has been recognised with this award.”

Matthew’s winning photograph incorporates four images taken on 1 September 2013 at Moor Park Mansion in Hertfordshire and pictures Jenna and Darren on their wedding day.  Matthew said, “Moor Park Mansion has some beautiful architecture and interiors, which are an important feature in my winning entry and help bring the panel of images together. Overall, the images demonstrate my style of photography - a blend of contemporary portraiture with documentary photography.”

In addition to the award trophy, Matthew received the gift of a luxury album from one of the World’s premier album manufacturers – Mario Acerboni – sponsors of the wedding award category.
