Follow on Google News | Ryubix Manor Hits 50% Funding on KickstarterWe had a chance to get a sneak peak of the module, about a third of what the finished product will contain - it is fully written, but the artwork is still to be placed in the module. The preview copy opens with a very well-written, brief history of the manor, which lays out the reason behind the manor's haunting, and readers also get a taste of who the NPCs are, a sampling of the maps, and the outdoor descriptions that will lead the PCs right up to the front door. One of the things that impressed us the most about this module is the ecology as it is appears to be in the Random Encounters section. Rats are pursued by cats; shocker lizards help to control the infestation by insects, but their numbers are kept in check by the larger spiders. Personalities, that is, descendants of the Ryubix Manor founders, appear in the next section and take the GM deeper into the background story of the curse and the family members that remain in the Manor in one form or another. They are superbly and colorfully written, giving enough to the GM to paint a picture of what is to come in the halls and rooms of the mega dungeon. A roofline map opens the Outdoor Descriptions area, and by the numbering of the pages in the preview, and evident by the Table of Contents, the Main Floor Plan map will also appear on page one, in the full version. Impressive as well is the way in which the GM and PCs have a choice, or is it options, of how to enter the Manor. Each of the other outdoor areas, which appear to be inside the walls of the Manor, opens with a section map that is "blown up" from the Main Floor Plan map. This indicates that the rest of the module is laid out in the same manner with each area of encounters or perhaps mapped areas, broken into smaller pieces with the corresponding map accompanying the description area, and after reading other reviewer's account of the full module, it appears we are correct on that prediction. This one goes on our "Highly Recommended" We love Kickstarter, we love Old School modules, we love success and we love it that we got in on this in the beginning, reaping some of the rewards that will not be available after the Kickstarter campaign ends, like a free copy of the next module in development, The City of the Lich!
