WALTHAM, Mass. - Jan. 31, 2014 - PRLog -- The Ethics & Compliance Officer Association (ECOA) announced today that in April it will offer a new professional development course unlike any other ever produced in the United States: Responsible Leadership.

Responsible Leadership is the only course of its kind to infuse ethics and compliance principles into leadership development targeted at business leaders–providing clarity on what leading by example and tone from the top mean in practice. This one-day interactive course has earned rave reviews in Europe for three years. Now, it is coming to the United States via the ECOA.  “We are so pleased to bring to the United States a course that combines traditional leadership training and ethical decision-making,” said Tim C. Mazur, the ECOA’s chief operating officer. “The ECOA recognizes that the future of leadership is one where integrity is taught alongside strategy.”

Participants to Discover How Reframing Situations through New and Different Lenses Leads to Better Decision-Making

With increasing ethical expectations, enforcement, transparency, technological advances, and generational differences in the workplace, the role of leaders is changing dramatically. While organizations recognize the need to adapt to new paradigms, many are unsure how to equip leaders with a greater sense of responsibility, without making them risk-averse and indecisive. “We all know that tone from the top is critical in today's changing business climate. However, many leaders ask themselves what that means in practice,” said Patrick Donovan, chief ethics officer at Airbus and member of the ECOA board of directors. “The Responsible Leadership course provides our leaders with the skills and tools to make it happen. Given the positive feedback from participants, we continue to offer this to people in leadership positions.”

This course is designed for business leaders, key talent, middle-to-senior management, and functional line managers to learn together in an interactive environment. Ethics and compliance (E&C) professionals are also welcome to attend the course, where they will learn how to support leaders in creating the right context for responsible business. The result: the E&C program earning the all-important executive buy-in it needs to be effective.

The course instructor is Dan Ostergaard, managing partner of Integrity by Design. He has developed leadership programs with faculty at Harvard Business School and Yale School of Management. Dan delivers leadership education to executives from global companies, including UBS, J&J, Heineken, PwC, and Norton Rose Fulbright. Previously, he had worldwide responsibility for managing corporate integrity as the head of integrity and compliance at Novartis.

The one-day interactive course takes place Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at the offices of Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP. For more information please visit www.theECOA.org or contact Maria Sonin at +1 781.647.9333.
