Remington College Kicks off 2014 3 Lives Blood Drive Campaign

Jan. 31, 2014 - PRLog -- Heathrow, Fla. – (January 31, 2014) – Remington College is kicking off its 2014

3 Lives blood drive campaign by celebrating a major milestone. Remington College has passed the 10,000 mark in the total number of pints of blood collected.

The Remington College 3 Lives campaign is an effort to increase the number of minority blood donors, and its partners include America’s Blood Centers and the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America.

In 2013, Remington College collected 2,048 pints of blood, bringing the total number of pints collected to more than 10,200 since the program began in 2010. 3 Lives is based on the concept that one pint of blood can save up to three lives – that’s as many as 30,000 lives saved in just four years.

“We are very proud of the results of the 3 Lives campaign and want to thank our students, staff and community members for donating blood,” said Jack Forrest, President and CEO of Remington College. “We hope to build on our success for an even better year in 2014.”

Each Remington College campus holds multiple 3 Lives blood drives each year. All the blood collected goes to local hospitals and medical centers in the communities where the drives are held.

3 Lives puts an emphasis on recruiting minority donors. According to the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America, African American donors provide blood with unique antigens that are vital for people with sickle cell disease and other blood disorders. Sickle cell disease affects more than 70,000 people in the U.S.

Across the U.S. the need for blood is high - someone needs blood every two seconds - but only about 5% of eligible donors regularly donate blood. Minority donors are in very high demand.
