Airgoo adds Ethernet and HD facilities to its Android Wireless MicroPlayer

Airgoo makes its debut at ISE Amsterdam with the launch of the HD Andriod Wireless MicroPlayer

CAMBRIDGE, U.K. - Jan. 31, 2014 - PRLog -- Leading edge digital signage specialist Airgoo is extending its price and technology advantage in the signage arena with a new - and highly compact - wireless MicroPlayer that supports HD video and Ethernet connectivity.

The new Wireless HDMI MicroPlayer builds on the success of the original unit, which has been successfully deployed across several retailers and franchise signage real estates - including Domino's premium fast food franchise.   Airgoo started deploying its original HDMI MicroPlayer to Domino a year ago, as its approved digital signage system for 770 stores throughout the UK, Republic of Ireland, Germany and Switzerland.

Pascal Cintract, Managing Director of Airgoo Wireless Media, says that the enhanced MicroPlayer - which his company will be offering to European distributors and dealers - is a cost-effective solution for a wide variety of franchised businesses and retail chains.

Deployment scenarios include restaurants, pharmacies, municipalities, schools and universities, health clubs and beauty salons and similar service-led retailers.  In fact, any customer-facing environment and business that would not normally resort to digital signage due to high costs.

"Many customer-facing businesses now operate on a seven-day/extended hours basis. Traditional digital signage systems can assist these businesses in relaying timely information to their customers, but - to date - they have been relatively expensive options," he said.

"The compact Wireless MicroPlayer changes this ballgame, giving customer-facing businesses the opportunity to tap the power of cloud computing - and the connectivity of an advanced USB/HDMI unit - to dramatically reduce the cost of deploying and maintaining a digital signage system," he added.

The Airgoo MD went on to say that the MicroPlayer converts any flat panel TV or monitor into a digital signage display remotely managed by  his company’s cloud based content management platform.

"Just as our original solution appealed to Domino's franchise operation, so we believe it will also appeal to other customer-facing businesses. Put simply, whether a signage system has one or 100 displays - even across multiple sites - our cloud-based resource can feed content to each screen in real time," he said.

"This is especially appealing to franchised businesses where they have to ensure that the system is easily maintained and managed by multi-unit franchisees - yet remaining affordable to those businesses with a handful of sites," he added.

In use, each MicroPlayer plugs into the HDMI port of a standard TV screen or monitor, which also powers the MicroPlayer via an industry-standard micro-USB port. Through Airgoo's Web interface scheduler, displays can be scheduled to run daily or weekly deals, menu boards or promotional videos, as and when they are required.

Pascal says that Airgoo's strategy of using the popular Android and Linux operating systems and a cloud computing-based resource to control each MicroPlayer means that clients have a real alternative to the high cost and complexity of costly PC or Mac based digital signage systems.

"And since each MicroPlayer has up to 4 gigabytes of on-board storage - enough to store several movies - content can be relayed to the unit and played on demand," he said.

"Furthermore, because content is stored locally on the MicroPlayer, there is no need for constant streaming of videos etc., to the unit. In the event of a local or Internet network failure - and unlike many other solutions - the MicroPlayer will continue to drive a menu board using its local content," he added.
