HomeAid Atlanta Holds Groundbreaking Ceremony at Rainbow Village

DULUTH, Ga. - Jan. 30, 2014 - PRLog -- HomeAid Atlanta and Rainbow Village supporters were in high spirits at the groundbreaking event on December 5, 2013.  HomeAid board president, Sandy Andrew, led the ceremony.  Speakers included volunteer project builder captain, Mike Smith of Harcrest Homes, Rainbow Village board member and City of Duluth Mayor Nancy Harris, Maureen, a graduate of Rainbow Village, and Dr. John Smith of Rainbow Village blessed the project.  Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate this momentous occasion.

HomeAid is proud and excited to begin construction on the new six-unit apartment building to house families experiencing transitional homelessness at Rainbow Village! The project cost estimate is $475,000.  Through support from the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association’s members and other companies in the community, HomeAid aims to contribute at least $200,000 in donations of in-kind materials and labor in order to help Rainbow Village put their savings back into their direct client service programs.  The building will provide 36+ beds and is an important part of Rainbow Village's "village".

About Rainbow Village: Rainbow Village is a transformational housing community for homeless families with children. Most of the heads of households at Rainbow Village are women fleeing lives of domestic violence and poverty. They are not just seeking a safe place to live but also the opportunity to craft a new life for themselves and their children. Rainbow Village has set in motion a true "village" model where homeless families can find refuge, recover, and learn to rebuild their lives with the support of a community-based family surrounding them. Rainbow Village doesn't just provide a quick fix in times of crisis but offers a long-term program that includes support services for the whole family including life skills training, character building, counseling, career development, after-school programs, financial education, and more. The goal is to break the cycles of homelessness, poverty and domestic violence by teaching adults and children to believe in themselves again, to chart a new course, and to work a plan that enables them to once again be self-sufficient.
