Russian Photography Goes Beyond The Limitations Of The Medium

Jan. 30, 2014 - PRLog -- The photographic creations "La Chatte" and "The Stairs", which were completed in December 2013 by the artist Oxana Jad (born 1979, Moscow) augment the two-dimensional limitations of the photographic medium by using 3D technology.

In "The Stairs" sophisticated reflections create three-dimensional effects. In the background, numerous illustrations of crossing and reflecting stairs create irrational illusions. In addition, the viewer has a voyeuristic view...

In "La Chatte" the new interest of the artist in three-dimensionality is clearly noticeable. Different reflections, which may or may not correspond to real events, appear on the glass surfaces of the retro dressing table.

The personal touch of Oxana Jad is clearly visible in both "The Stairs" and "La Chatte". Both works demonstrate the symbol-laden aesthetic typical of her work. In "La Chatte" fog sneaks across the bottom of the screen - an image she often employs to represent doubt, dreams, mysteriousness. The many intricate details in her photography allow for numerous interpretations in accordance with the sensibilities of the respective viewer and create a magical world beyond the limitations of reality.

The art of Oxana Jad has received numerous awards – for example, in 2009 she received the Saxony-Art Prize for Photography –  and her work is on display in numerous private and public collections.

Oxana Jad completed her studies at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste (Academy of Arts) Dresden and and studied at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst (Academy of Graphic and Book Arts) in Leipzig, Germany. In the Saxon city, she became a follower of the "Leipzig School", known for their interdisciplinary scientific studies. After initial exhibitions in Germany, international success –  highlighted by appearances at exhibitions in Moscow and New York – followed quickly.

Oxana Jad´s is based in Germany, the US and Spain and her current work is being presented in the solo exhibition "Personal myths"  in the  GVM Gallery in Cologne until January 30th, 2014. After that a selection of her work is going to New York City, where it will be made accessible to a wide audience in the Nailya Alexander Gallery.
