LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. - Jan. 29, 2014 - PRLog -- Hindustan University has joined IEEE Computer Society as a Registered Education Provider, and will offer IEEE Computer Society software development preparation and training products to students.

Based in Chennai, India, Hindustan University will deliver IEEE Computer Society's SWEBOK Certificate Program (http://www.computer.org/portal/web/certification/SWEBOK-Certification-Program) (SCP), and theCertified Software Development Associate (http://www.computer.org/portal/web/certification/csda) (CSDA) and Certified Software Development Professional (http://www.computer.org/portal/web/certification/csdp) (CSDP) credentials to its students. All three programs aim to raise the skills levels of recipients and further prepare them to join the global workorce.

Hindustan University is a university of engineering founded in 1985 by Dr. K. C. G. Verghese as Hindustan College of Engineering. It was granted university status from the University Grants Commission in 2008 as the Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science.

The SCP (http://www.computer.org/portal/web/certification/SWEBOK-C...), consisting of four learning modules with 25-plus hours of instruction each, was created to raise a university student's understanding and proficiency of the 15 Knowledge Areas in theGuide to the Software Engineering Body of Knowledge (http://www.computer.org/portal/web/swebok) (SWEBOK), which provides the basis for IEEE Computer Society software development certifications.

Each completed module will result in a certificate. By completing the four modules, a student will have a solid understanding of the software development lifecycle. This will give students an excellent foundation as they embark on a career in software development, and provide a stepping stone to the CSDA certification.

The CSDA (http://www.computer.org/portal/web/certification/csda), designed for entry-level software developers, is intended to provide undergraduate computer science and software engineering students their first credential toward a solid career foundation as a software development practitioner. The CSDP (http://www.computer.org/portal/web/certification/csdp), designed for postgraduate students and mid-career professionals, helps software engineers demonstrate their commitment to the profession and confirms their proficiency in the software development field.

Hindustan University is planning to adopt the software engineering syllabus defined by the SWEBOK Guide, which conforms to ISO standard ISO-IEC 24773, into the curriculum of their postgraduate and undergraduate programs, thus upgrading their standard of education on par with several universities in USA and Europe.

"We are happy that Hindustan University is the first autonomous university in Tamilnadu to come forward to adopt SWEBOK courses as part of their regular curriculum and train all their students of software engineering," said Harish Mysore, director of IEEE India Operations. "I heartily congratulate Hindustan University on becoming an IEEE Computer Society Registered Education Provider.
