2nd Annual Fort Harrison Charity Tea Party Invites Community to the Wild West

CLEARWATER, Fla. - Jan. 29, 2014 - PRLog -- On Sunday, February 9^th, the Church of Scientology, Flag will turn their grand auditorium into a tea room for their Annual Charity Tea party. This year’s theme is “The Wild West” and in addition to live music from the Flag Band and Joanie Sigal, guests will be treated to a three-course tea and a live theatrical presentation of a classic pulp fiction story by L. Ron Hubbard.

         Doors will open at 1:30, with tea service starting at 2:00pm. There is no cost to attend, but donations will be accepted for the Pediatric Program at the Clearwater Free Clinic.

         Since 1977, the Clearwater Free Clinic has provided low-cost health care to the uninsured of Upper Pinellas County. It is a volunteer-driven, non-profit, non-governmental medical facility that treats a wide variety of medical conditions as well as providing education programming to keep their clients healthy. Guest to the tea party will be further enlightened on the Clinic and its overall mission.

         “The tea menu includes Cornbread and Sage Scones, a choice of Roast Beef, Chipotle Chicken Salad or Snake River Salmon Sandwiches and dessert,” said Zoltan Vajna, the Executive Chef of the Fort Harrison. “So it is traditional tea food – but in a Wild West tradition.”

         Guests to the tea also enjoy American folk music, Wild West photo stations, a Root Beer Bar and can meet the “Sheriff” of the Fort Harrison, actor and writer L.D. Sledge.

         The afternoon will be rounded out with a multi-cast dramatic reading of L. Ron Hubbard’s “When Gilhooly Was in Flower”.  Originally published in 1938, “Gilhooly” is a classic Western romance with a clueless cowboy (Jigsaw Gilhooly) trying to win the hand of his true love. When a ruthless rancher and his henchmen intervene, Gilhooly must save the day.

         “During a 50-year career as a writer, Mr. Hubbard earned a reputation as one of the world's most popular and influential authors,” said Sigal, who also is the producer of the show. “Mr. Hubbard wrote short stories, novels, film scripts, poetry, articles, essays, nonfiction books and more and it is exciting to bring his stories to life.”

         It was this work, added Sigal, that funded Hubbard’s research into what would culminate in Dianetics and Scientology.

         For the past 87 years, the Fort Harrison has been a social and cultural hub for the community. Now owned by the Church of Scientology, the facility is available for charitable groups.
