SARASOTA, Fla. - Jan. 29, 2014 - PRLog -- Sarasota, Florida -   Thomas Paine himself is making his appearance and urging all to use "common sense" while celebrating his birthday at the largest Thomas Paine’s 277th birthday party in the country.

Gene Jones, President of Florida Veterans for Common Sense (http://floridaveteransforcommonsense.org/) and author of Suwanee Divide hosts the evening’s merriment shining a spotlight on Thomas Paine’s influence on our daily lives now and the ideals we as people aspire to be.

As with everything else in his life, Thomas is planning a rather popular birthday party this year.  The invite list includes many of the county’s finest volunteers including Michael Pender Jr CPA, PFS, CFE, CFF of Sarasota Bay Rotary Club (http://www.sarasotabayrotaryclub.com/) and others.  Kevin Connelly of Apollo Sunguard, Goodwill Foundation, Jeanette M. Lee and Edward Cook are supporting the festivities.

Keynote Speaker is Professor Harvey Kaye, Ph.D., Rosenburg Professor of History and Social Change University of Wisconsin-Green Bay with a hilarious and insightful take on the historical affairs to share.  Christopher Davis veteran US Army bringing hands on experience as Veteran’s Program Manager at Goodwill Manasota.

Born February 9, 1937 (Old Style January 29, 1936) Thomas Paine was the author of a very important pamphlet called Common Sense that was published in 1776. He wrote a compelling argument for independence from Great Britain. His pamphlet convinced many colonists and founding fathers of the wisdom of open rebellion against the British if necessary. Further, he published another pamphlet called The Crisis during the Revolutionary War that helped spur on the soldiers to fight.  One of his many famous quotes to live by is "Character is much easier kept than recovered”.

The birthday party is an authentic application of the Florida Veterans for Common Sense’s commitment to support the founding principles of the United States of America.  The event is fun, educational and entertaining, building good will and strong bonds for party goers to this uplifting occasion.

The highlight of the night is Goodwill Manasota’s CEO/ Executive Director Bob Rosinsky winning the coveted Annual Thomas Paine Award, joining ranks with the Honorable Judge Lee Haworth, Wald Proffitt and Rob Lorei, past recipients of the award. This year the award was won based on Goodwill Manasota’s Program to aid veteran’s dealing with challenges in readjusting to living in society called "American Veterans and Their Families Initiative", which is now one year old and displaying impressive signs of success.

The most current schedule of events for the biggest birthday party celebration and more common sense events is available at FVFCS’s Official Website: www.floridaveteransforcommonsense.org
