DC Television Premiere Of Unique New Black History Documentary

WASHINGTON - Jan. 29, 2014 - PRLog -- Few American cities have played a more important pivotal role in African American history than Washington D.C.  To help honor that role, two DC television stations are teaming up to commemorate Black History Month with a television premier exclusively for DC viewers. Bounce TV DC and WUSA 9 will give DC viewers the opportunity to watch a very special must-see documentary called Brown Babies: The Mischlingskinder Story.

Brown Babies: The Mischlingskinder Story
details a little known chapter in American history.

It is the story of children born to German women and African-American soldiers during World War II, and who were unwanted, ignored and forgotten. The Brown Babies documentary poignantly chronicles the lives of the biracial, bicultural children who were placed in orphanages and were left to live without the support of their parents or their countries.

Winner of the Best Documentary award at the American Black Film Festival, Brown Babies: The Mischlingskinder Story was directed, written and produced by DC resident Regina Griffin.  Also an Emmy award winning News Executive Producer at WUSA 9, Griffin says after being entrusted with these very personal, painful, and moving stories, she felt compelled to share their stories.  According to Griffin “We allowed those children to be abandoned.  We cannot now allow them to be forgotten. The world must know their story.”

WUSA 9 President & General Manager Mark Burdett says the timing for airing the documentary couldn’t be better.  “We actually run Bounce TV DC on our digital channel 9.2 and beginning February 1st we have our first-ever opportunity to insert local programming on to the station.  We were thrilled to reserve the rights to Regina’s documentary because it is exactly the kind of high quality programming that DC viewers deserve.”

Brown Babies has already been featured on CNN and earned the distinction of Best Film at the African-American  Women in Cinema Film Festival (New York City) and was HBO Best Documentary finalist at the Martha’s Vineyard Black Film Festival.

DC viewers can watch the incredible documentary Brown Babies: The Mischlingskinder Story every Monday evening during Black History Month on Bounce TV DC.  The film will air:

Monday Feb. 3 at 7pm

Monday Feb. 10 at 7pm

Monday Feb 17 at 7pm

Monday Feb 24 at 7pm

And WUSA 9 will air Brown Babies: The Mischlingskinder Story Saturday Feb. 22 at 7pm.  WUSA 9 is owned by the Gannett Corporation and also manages Bounce TV DC.
