Teen Nation Tour Coming to Houston

PRLog - Jan. 27, 2014 - HOUSTON -- The Teen Nation Tour (http://www.teennationtour.com/) – an anti-bullying campaign and concert tour featuring young recording artists – will perform for more than 15,000 students and faculty at 15 schools in Houston over two weeks Feb. 3-14 starting at Fleming Middle School.

“Houston is one of the larger markets the Teen Nation Tour will visit this year,” said San Antonio resident and tour founder Lee Wilson. “Our goal is to stand and defend against bullying. We want kids to know that we care, listen, and support you.”

The Teen Nation Tour is a peer-to-peer, 90-minute anti-bullying program free to schools.Students learn about the types of bullying (http://www.teennationtour.com/), how to prevent it, where to turn when it occurs, and more.Tour artistsperform Top 40 hits, lecture, and share personal experiences about bullying. On weekends the group performs concerts at non-school venues often at no charge.

Headlining the Houston Teen Nation Tour are Nic Neufeld (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MnzgM39RTc), 11, of Dodsland, Saskatchewan; and Tristan Blaine (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w8oqQWqsLr0), 14, of Frisco, TX. Additional performers include former American Idol contestant Jamiah Malik (https://www.facebook.com/#!/jamiahmalikmusic), 15, of San Antonio, TX; former X Factor contestant J.Ryan (http://www.jryanofficial.com/), 14 of San Antonio, TX; Kaity Floyd (http://kaityfloyd.com/), 20, of Dallas, TX; Victoria (http://www.vlivingthedream.com/) Disorio, 15, of Pembroke Pines, FL; and My Only Escape (http://www.reverbnation.com/myonlyescape1) pop/rock band members Branden Mendoza, 20, of New Carney, TX; Vaughan Heppe, 21, of Portland, OR; and Conor Kearns, 20, of Sugarland, TX.

The Houston Teen Nation Tour includes morning and afternoon school performances at:

Mon., Feb. 3 - Patrick Henry Middle School, 4 p.m.
Tues., Feb. 4 - Revere Middle School, 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Wed., Feb. 5 - Ortiz Middle School, 9 a.m./Stephenson Middle School, 1 p.m.
Thrs., Feb. 6 -  iAAC Elementary,8:30 a.m./C Martinez Elementary,1 p.m. Fri., Feb. 7 - Lanier Middle School, 9 a.m./Clifton Middle School,1 pm

Mon., Feb. 10 - Rice School, 9 am/Alexander Hamilton Middle School, 1 pm
Tues., Feb. 11 - Hartman Middle School, 9:00 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Wed., Feb. 12 - Fonville Middle School, 8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Thrs., Feb. 13 - Key Middle School, 9 a.m. /Jane Long Academy, 1 p.m.
Fri., Feb. 14 - Pershing Middle School, 9 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.

The group will also perform a concert at the Last Concert Café on Sat., Feb. 8 starting with a red carpet arrival at 3:00 p.m., concert at 4:00 p.m. and meet-and-greet at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $10.00 at the door.

Statistics on bullying and suicide are alarming.Suicide is the third leading cause of death among young people, resulting in about 4,400 deaths per year, according to the CDC. For every suicide among young people, there are at least 100 suicide attempts. More than 14 percent of high school students have considered suicide, and almost 7 percent have attempted it.

The Teen Nation Tour (https://www.facebook.com/TeenNationTour) recently launched its 2014 year-long tour in San Antonio where artists performedfor nearly 14,000 students and faculty at 17 schools over two weeks.

The Teen Nation Tour started in 2012 with 30 performances reaching about 20,000 people. In 2013, the Teen Nation Tour ballooned to about 80 total performances in 11 states reaching more than 40,000 people. The 2014 tour is scheduled to perform at more than 330 school and other venues in about 40 cities, 22 states, and several hundred school districts reaching an estimated half-million or more people.
