Four Minute Fitness Phenonemon Tabata™ Set To Reach World Record Fitness Levels

The biggest ever tabata™ session looks set to tackle Scotland’s growing obesity levels

Jan. 24, 2014 - PRLog -- tabataTM,the hot new workout scientifically proven to get you fit in just four minutes of intense exercise, is due to hit Scotland on Monday 27 January. Over 1000 fitness fanatics are aiming to set a new World Record at a Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games venue.

Swarms of people will flock to the Emirate’s Arena, Glasgow to take part in the world’s biggest ever mass participation tabata™ fitness class on Monday 27 January at 6pm. With official figures* showing the number of adults in Scotland considered to be overweight is continuing to rise, Glasgow is fighting back and getting active with tabata™.

Up to 250,000 calories are set to be burned by those taking part in the World Record attempt, as participants can expect to burn up to 250 calories during the mass tabata™ session.

Olympic medallist and gymnast, Louis Smith, who recently announced he is aiming to qualify for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, has been following a tabata™  training programme to get in top condition for his return to Gymnastics training. Louis said, “Since starting tabata™ I feel amazing – the best I’ve felt for months. The idea of dropping fat and building up muscle with a routine that takes just four minutes was a bit of a no-brainer! I want to wish everyone taking part the best of luck for the World Record attempt.”

tabata™ is the first exercise system born in a laboratory, not in a gym. Developed by Japanese scientist Professor Izumi Tabata, it’s the most famous form of High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) with 20 seconds of intense exercise followed by 10 seconds rest, repeated eight times. That’s just four minutes of exercise in total. Clinical trials showed that it was more effective in those four minutes at improving fitness levels than an hour on an exercise bike. Plus it burned calories for up to 12 hours after the workout ended. Professional athletes like Team GB cycling and many Premiership clubs have long been fans, along with A-listers like Henry Cavill, Elle McPherson, Hugh Jackman and Jessica Biel, plus X-Factor winner Sam Bailey.
