MUMBAI, India - Jan. 24, 2014 - PRLog -- Last year Microsoft announced End of Life for Windows XP. Microsoft Windows XP support will be discontinued from 8th April 2014, as per the support lifecycle policy introduced in 2002 by Microsoft. Countable days are left for all Windows XP savvy businesses and organizations either to upgrade or switch to new OS environment. Even though most of them have planned to upgrade and many others are busy in searching for solutions to tackle this situation, this is a chance for them to rethink.
Microsoft Windows XP operating system was a technology trend setter of the last decade cause of its’ UI and integrity with Active Directory. With the introduction of new cloud compatible Windows 8 OS Microsoft has once again changed complete OS, kernel as well as user interface.

Migration from Windows XP to Windows 8 is therefore not going to be as easy as just an OS upgrade. It demands upgrade of hardware, OS as well as end users (user training). This migration or up gradation is therefore working out quite heavy on pocket for organizations which are still using Windows XP. Also, as reason behind this up gradation is not business growth but just business continuity; most of the organizations are finding it a forced expense.

In this scenario many organizations are looking forward to migrate to open source platforms as to overcome recurring Microsoft licensing expenses. Few of the challenges which these organizations has been facing in migration process are like application compatibility with open source OS, printer/scanner compatibility and management, user experience, compatibility challenges while sharing data with third party users, user acceptance, etc.

In order to address needs and concerns of these organizations, Propalms a leading virtualization company has announced a launch of “Windows XP Migration Campaign” (http://www.propalmsnetwork.com/promo/MWXMC/microsoft-is-e...). This is a technology awareness campaign launched by Propalms in India. We observed that Windows XP is still being used to good extent in Indian Enterprise and SME segments. Use of Windows XP is more visible in tier I, Tier II cities or in small towns both by small as well as large enterprises. We observed that even large enterprises and few of the corporate also are still using Windows XP machines at their smaller branches, C&F locations, Depots, etc. over the years, either to maintain end user comfort or low cost of IT. Getting trained resources or training existing resources in such locations is a challenge in front of IT. Also maintaining profitability of these locations is another factor which makes regular OS up gradations unviable for such environments.

Propalms has a range of solutions to offer viable and effective business environment to these organizations. Propalms’ flagship application delivery solution (http://www.propalmsnetwork.com/promo/MWXMC/microsoft-is-ending-support-for-windows-xp.html) TSE 7.0 (Terminal Services Edition) and Shared Hosted Desktop solution offers a best technology approach to these organizations.

Propalms solutions can centralize all user space applications and data; therefore eliminating application compatibility challenges (legacy applications as well as latest applications can work simultaneously). Using Shared Hosted module organizations can offer same old desktop look and fill to end users; this can ensure faster user acceptance and save cost and effort of user training and reduced productivity. Once applications are centralized and user interface is maintained, then organizations get freedom to migrate end point device to open source or embedded OS; as end point OS/device is no longer critical for end user. This approach offers great ROI to organizations over 3 years span. At the same time it drastically reduces Cost of Ownership for future IT expansions.
Few of the important aspects which organization has to consider while using centralization technology or solution are user acceptance, ease of management, compatibility at different levels (end point OS/device, applications, protocol, peripherals, etc.), scalability, business continuity, redundancy and ROI. Propalms solutions really stand high on all these parameters.

With 5 years of presence in India, 200+ customer base across country and Pune based development and Support Center, and best of breed technology, Propalms is today vendor of choice to address these requirements of Indian Enterprise and SME market.
