New Center for Metal Arts Website Hosts Artisan Community Resources

The tenth anniversary of the Center for Metal Arts education center saw the launch of the new, image-packed website www.centerformetalarts.com, with workshop videos and an expanded weekend program.

FLORIDA, N.Y. - Feb. 2, 2014 - PRLog -- The new Center for Metal Arts website is packed with video tours, images, workshop descriptions, history, and the local culture and eateries that make the Center for Metal Arts a workshop destination in southeastern New York. The new website is a gateway to the colorful history and unique culture of this growing metal arts education center.

"Our new website is about the culture of community that develops around the arts and the growth of artisans in their own work in the metal arts," says Rhoda Mack, longtime program director of the metal arts studio. "What we have tried to build is a website that reflects the community of artisans and the way each student's skill development contributes to the metal arts learning studio. Students learn from master teachers, but they also bring their own energy, passions, and ideas to the learning community."

Built by Center for Metal Arts' Acting Director Sue Lacy, the new www.centerformetalarts.com website devotes a Member Gallery page to contributions from students, allowing current and former students the opportunity to showcase their own body of work. "We want to provide a venue for metal artisans to show their developing work," says Sue Lacy.  "We are especially pleased to have postings of work inspired or enhanced with a workshop here at the Center for Metal Arts." The Member Gallery page was built to highlight student opportunities and personal growth that CMA helped make possible. With the website theme of people and community, the new Member Gallery mirrors the culture of the CMA team of artisans who each bring their own passions to the studio.

As a part of CMA's culture of community, the expanded website gives a personal introduction to the staff and studio members with photographs of work and life. Read more about the staff and Center for Metal Arts history at http://www.centerformetalarts.com/about-us.html. Here visitors can get to know the staff members that they interact with on the phone and online.

Included in the Center for Metal Arts history is the mythological story of Hephaestus, the Greek god of blacksmithing, who is featured in the CMA logo with some subtle blacksmithing humor in the details. True to the Greek myth of Hephaestus, he forged the tools for the other gods, from Athena's spindle to Neptune's trident.

The new Center for Metal Arts website shows a two-track roster of workshops with both blacksmithing and fine metal arts in a series of intro and master classes. A Past Workshops page offers a bigger picture of the Center for Metal Arts class offerings, where a new feature invites students to post feedback about their experience.

New on the Center for Metal Arts store page is a growing stock of hand-forged tools, videos and books for the metal artisan, and an expanded selection of Gift Certificates that can be purchased online and promptly delivered via email. The Gift Certificates are flexible for purchasing classes or for items in the online store. Hephaestus is featured on the current CMA tee-shirt in 5 sizes for men and women.

The expanded You Are Here page at http://www.centerformetalarts.com/location.html#YouAreHere is a curated collection of must-see places in the picturesque Warwick Valley, recommended overnight stays, and a list of the bistros, delis and local ethnic eateries that help to make the Center for Metal Arts a weekend workshop destination. Spouses can also take advantage of the weekly updated www.warwickvalleyliving.com listings of things to do in the area.

The new website was built by Acting Director Sue Lacy, who brought fresh conceptual framing to the story of the Center for Metal Arts. As a live-blogging participant in the annual Lewton-Brain workshop in late summer and coordinator of the annual Lewton-Brain Foldform Competition, Sue Lacy brought her media background and technical skills to fast-track the new website from concept to publishing.

Visitors can keep current on events and news at the expanded Center for Metal Arts website, with new videos and images of the workshops added as they happen. The companion site for informal insider news is www.facebook.com/CenterForMetalArts.
